International Competition
Flautiada
brings Flautiada OZ and Moravian Woodwind Quintet z.s.
The International Flute Competition Flautiada is a well-established flute competition in the European music area. As one of the few competitions for this instrument, it enjoys great popularity and interest not only from young musicians, but also from the professional public from all over Europe. The competition has been held at biennial intervals since 2009, but the seventh edition was held in June 2022 in Banská Bystrica after a three-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The mission of the Flautiada is to find young talents and the prize awarded can help them to start their professional career. The winners receive scholarships for masterclasses under the guidance of renowned artists and teachers, as well as solo concerts accompanied by leading Slovak music ensembles such as the Slovak State Philharmonic Košice, the Slovak State Chamber Orchestra Žilina and the Slovak State Philharmonic Orchestra Žilina, Slovak Chamber Orchestra, and will perform at renowned Slovak music festivals (Music Festival Piešt'any, Allegretto Žilina or the concert series within the Slovak Philharmonic's dramaturgy, Slovak Philharmonic Subscription Series). All these awards are the starting line in the musical career of young artists. The quality of the competition performances is also evidenced by the fact that many of our prize winners later won other prestigious awards at major worldwide competitions such as the Prague Spring, Kobe International Flute Competition, Concours Jean-Pierre Rampal, Carl Nielsen Flute Competition and many others. Thanks to the scholarships awarded for masterclasses, the winners of the past years have also been given opportunities to study at prestigious universities under the guidance of top teachers. Many of them are now principal players of music ensembles (Symphonie Orchester Hamburg - Katarína Slavkovská, Dresdner Symphonie Orchester - Marianna Julia Żołnacz, Slovak State Philharmonic Košice - Janka Jámborová, Philarmonie Györ - Albert Szentgyörgyváry, Czech National Symphony Orchestra - Tim Kadlec).
